We have been having so much creating! But first a huge THANKS ! To Quiltdad for the goodies! I was so grateful to receive the package. First Christmas creation was these fun patchwork pillows - I used a tutorial from Sew Mama Sew, for the patchwork, and another tutorial from Cluck, Cluck sew for the tree.

YEAH!
So a lot has been going on, and I'm excited to share some fun. Right before Halloween I finished the quilt I did with the Fat Quarterly quilt along. It was so much fun to complete. I love, love, love FQ, and highly recommend a subscription. It was my first quilt that I machine stitched myself. What do you think? I was going for the spooky tree look. I think my next project is going to be smaller. "Spooky Fun", the name of the quilt, was about 50 inches x 90 inches. Want to know the best part? I did the whole top for $7.00, that's right my friends. Found the jellyroll on clearance for $7.00, and the black was a hand me down from my GG (grandma). Can't get cheaper then that.
Guess what else? I won! A great package of goodies from Quilt Dad - can't wait till they arrive! I have some more I will be posting soon, gotta take my monkey to the dentist.

I know I'm a horrible blogger. No excuse, just crazy busy with life - ohh, and reading other fine fabric blogs out there. Anyone else find great blogs addicting? I've decided maybe I should blog more, so here goes. I have been working on a few things. From the Old Red Barn Quilt Along - forever ago . . .

Dumpster Diving
Wednesday, May 12, 2010
So my machine died. It's about 13 years old. Actually for the first 11 years of it's life it just sat - maybe that's why it died. Going from sitting in a closet to quilting as much as possible would be like never training for a marathon and then running it. Poor machine. I'm kinda going crazy without it, so I've been piecing a little on my daughters Hello Kitty Janome machine that we got at Target for $25. It actually runs a lot smoother than my old $400 singer, funny how things work out. Anyway any words of advice on what to buy? I'm still calling myself a beginner there's a lot to learn. I've also been crocheting more. Made this flower headband for my little sassy. She truly is one of my greatest creations yet. Just feeling really lucky to be blessed to see that smiling face.

Purchased this Riley Blake fabric several months ago and am just getting around to it. The skirt is Portabella Pixie's patchwork skirt pattern. It was made for my little Sas! Next to the pillow case dress I made this summer it was a first for me. It was a lot of fun, and the best part is there are a lot of scraps left over. Yep, they are cut into 5 inch squares, and will be made into a quilt ASAP! Ohhh! How I love fabric. We are just getting over the H1N1 virus, and it's great to be feeling better - now it's time to get projects done.

O.K. so I'm very addicted to quilting, and blog suffering all the amazing quilt blogs out there. It's overwhelming! But it does inspire me, and with really sick kids the last few days it sure has been a great thing to do. Anyway, I joined the block party group, and they are having a great giveaway, check it out! http://www.blockpartyquilting.com/2009/11/quilt-along-kick-off-giveaway.html

Have you heard of pay it forward? I've seen a couple of crafty blogs, and was lucky enough to catch on at handmadebyheidi.blogspot. Here are the rules if you want to play . . .
1. You must have a blog to play.
2. The first three people to comment on this post agree to play Pay it Forward by posting on their blog and playing with the first three people that comment on their blog.
3. I agree to send, sometime withing 365 days, a gift to those same three people who commented on this blog post. (That is the "playing" part!) The gift doesn't have to be crafty, so don't worry about that.
Email me if you have questions! Have fun!

O.K. so here is another quilt! I love making quilts, it truly is a new found obsession and joy in my life. If only I had a little more money(o.k. a lot more money), and a lot more time. I read the other day that a broken sewing machine, means a clean house. Wouldn't it be great to create all day everyday? I could do it, and then give all the fun things away. That is really one of my favorite parts of making things, giving them away. It was a delight to give this quilt to a friend who just had a little girl. She loves hot pink, so of course my dear friend who helped me, and I needed to go with it. We kept is simple! And look what we came up with. If I remember correctly we bought 10 different black and white fabrics 1/2 yard each. Cut them into strips, sewed them together, and in a matter of about 2 hours the top was done. That's even working with distractions. The back is pink minky, so it's extra soft. We just stitched in the ditch, then add the hot pink ric rac and flowers. We left the flower edges so they would fray. It turned out really cute, and the little baby just loves the contrast with the black and white. It went together really quick. Thanks to one of my best girls and her help - it always is a joy to create with her.

So it's been a long while - my sanity is gone . . . . . I haven't had much time to create, but I'm determined to find my mind, so I better start crafting right? I did find a little time this summer, and finished a quilt for my niece that was born in May. Better late then never. It was my first free motion quilting project. WOW! It was so much fun, I can't wait to try again. The quilt turned out O.K. There are obviously mistakes, but isn't that the charm in handmade? It was made with a Moda line, love moda. I did this project with one of my best girls. We both added to the original pattern called Check the Stars from Pixie Girl Quilts. Huge thanks to Deb for all the help!

Cute Journals

My sweet man just had knee surgery, and when your self employed it's the pits. So to help cover some of the medical cost, I'm selling some of the blankets I've made. They are all new, and never been used. All are hand crafted. The rag blanket measure approx. 38 x 38 inches and is made of flannel. I feel in love with the sweet little animals. $75. The white crocheted blanket is approx. 30 x 40 inches, made with yarn, simply precious. $75. I also have posted 2 flannel blankets both crocheted around the edges, with a matching burp cloth. They measure approx. 45 inches square. The blue has a darling matching polka dot, and the pink has a precious matching green stripe. $35 a set. Please email me if your interested! Thanks!
O.K. so it has been awhile. My goal to keep a blog of crafts going is a lot harder to accomplish than I thought. Maybe after girl's camp, things will slow down just a little bit. This is a quilt I made for my nephew. I learned a lot of new things making this quilt. It is my third quilt I pieced. I drew the animals on muslin then stitched around them with brown thread. I love how it turned out, and need to try this one again. Although I did make a lot of mistakes, it's truly one on my favorites thus far. I hope little fro enjoys it to the fullest!
